A not-for-profit organisation focused on improving skatepark facilities in Bristol and surrounding areas.
DEAN LANE SKATEPARK
In 2019 we launched a community fundraiser with the aim of converting the disused space next to Dean Lane skatepark into a smooth, flat slab of concrete ideal for wheeled riders of all ages and abilities. Throughout the pandemic, we continued to raise funds and in September 2021 Canvas Skatepark Designers were awarded the contract and began work on this simple yet much-needed new section to the Bristol scene.
THE IDEA, THE PLAN, THE PROJECT
Making The Deaner even Meaner
BSC created a feature-length documentary about the history of the skatepark [see below] The film - Nothing Meaner - was hosted by skateboard platform Thrasher and reached global audiences.
The buzz created by the film acted as the perfect launchpad for a fundraising campaign to improve the park. BSC are looking to raise funds to build an additional section of the park where the derelict basketball court currently sits. This land is currently unused but could add so much to the potential of the skatepark.
Bristol lacks a smooth, flat open space in the city centre. Somewhere with small simple skateable objects where skaters can practise without disturbance.
The slab fills that void.
